I have two questions:

When I set my auger control (manual control, not thermostat) below the halfway setting it will burn out and quit. It is in a 600 sqft building so it gets REALLY warm above the halfway setting. What can be adjusted to let the stove just simmer?

Also,is it possible (feasable) to upgrade my control board to one with a thermostat control?

The Dial-A -Fire (potentiometer) feed control on your stove is a 1.5 lb per hour feed on low and if your stove is going out lower then 1/2 point my question to you is does the stove stop feeding pellets below the 1/2 way point if it does then the Dial-A-Fire needs to be replaced. The older stoves are not set up to convert to a digital pc board with out rewiring the whole stove and this could be quite an expense. If the stove still feeds pellets below the 1/2 way point and it goes out then the problem is due to a poor air to fuel ratio (give the stove more air) and this could be caused by a clogged cowling to fix this remove the exhaust fan and clean to the back firewall also clean the flue system and since you have gone this far I would suggest removing the convection and exhaust fan blowing out the fan motors and cage with compressed air oiling the motors with electrical motor oil (one drop) then running the motors on the work bench to make sure they are running at the proper rpm.

I re-cleaned from the cowl to the end of the exhaust pipe. I also cleaned the convection/combustion blower side. I had very little debris on either side. The auger seems to work fine at any setting. Clockwise its faster, counter clockwise its slower. It will feed at any setting.

I did a few more tests...
To start I fill the hopper about halfway with pellets, set the auger trim at 12:00, and press start. In a couple minutes it lights. If I leave the auger trim at 12:00 it will burn down and turn off. If I turn the trim all the way to the right it will continue to burn. If I turn it back to 12:00 or less it will burn out. Its as if the hopper isn't being filled with enough pellets to keep it lit, or there is too much air being pushed through and burning too fast. When it burns itself out the ashes left in the hopper look like cigarette ashes.

Any ideas?

John

Its not a great pic, but here are the ashes in the hopper after it burns out.
